FERROUS METALS

Cast iron, carbon steel, and wrought iron are examples of ferrous metals. A stark difference between ferrous and non-ferrous metals is the predominance of the element iron in their properties. The easiest way to determine if a metal is ferrous is to check if it is magnetic; if it is attracted to a magnet, it is ferrous. However, despite their advantageous properties, the carbon content of these materials renders them susceptible to rusting and corrosion.

Ferrous metals are commonly used in the construction, marine, engineering, and automobile sectors due to their high tensile strengths and durability. There are many applications for them - from structural steels in buildings to anchor chains on ships, to hand tools and electrical appliances we use every day.

Due to the fact that ferrous metals represent the most recycled material globally as well as the most significant category of municipal solid waste, CMI takes responsibility for recycling them to prevent them from ending up in landfills or incineration plants. Our facility is appropriately equipped with machinery and resources to handle and process ferrous metals of all sizes.
